Best Wordpress Theme Midnite

Mon, Jun 2, 2008

I am pleased to announce my latest free theme, Midnite. The color scheme is somewhat reminiscent of Ambient Glo, but this theme has a better design (I think).

This theme is compatible with WordPress 2.5.1, is widget-ready, is cross-browser compatible (yes, even Internet Explorer 6), follows W3C standards, and is CSS/XHTML valid.

As you will see, I used images for the headings in the two sidebars. To give you ultimate flexibility with that, I have included the font I used in the “fonts” folder.
You can use that to create your own unique heading images in the site.

This is the support page for this theme, so if you have any questions, or have a bug to report, post it here in the comments.

You can demo it here or Download Midnite (154)

Free Lean and Clean Wordpress Theme

Mon, Jun 2, 2008

I’ve taken my love for clean, grid based designs and developed a Wordpress theme for release. You can download it below.

Some notes about this theme…

I did my best to build this theme so that anyone could just plug it in and use it. My goal was to make this theme with a clean, minimalist design. In the Stylesheet I did my best to leave comments on what changes what and what styles control certain aspects of the side design.

All I ask is that you kindly leave the link to my blog to give me credit for the design in the footer.

I’ll do my best to provide support but can’t promise much as a I have a full load of freelance clients that are my priority. But, I will do my best. A great resource for WordPress questions is at codex.wordpress.org.

Theme Features:

  • Widget ready
  • Clean code
  • Easy to change colors
  • Well organized CSS file
  • Code hierarchy is optimized for Google to crawl and SEO
  • Plug it in, activate your theme, add widgets and its ready to go.
  • Cross browser compatible - yes, it works in IE 6!

Approved Plugins

These aren’t the only ones that work. But they are the ones that I have tested to work well with this theme and work great with the widget features…

If you have questions, please leave them in the comments for now.

Hanami Wordpress Theme

anami is a two-column widget-ready theme, inspired by the WP Admin palette and the Seed Conference font-stack. Simple and clean, the intention was (as always) to display content in clear and concise manner. And it’s not brown.

Features

  • No plug-ins required
  • Widget enabled
  • Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS 2.1 (provided you don’t add any strange tags in your post)
  • Gravatar enabled for WordPress 2.5
  • Special formatting, such as dropcaps for posts and captions for photographs and other images

Demo

A live demo of Hanami can be seen here.

Download

Hanami is available for WordPress 2.5.

Hanami Theme

Installation

Installation is straightforward, and follows the conventions of other WordPress themes. Simply upload the Hanami folder and its contents to the ‘themes’ directory of your WordPress install. Log-in to your site, go to the admin panel, and under ‘Design’, activate Hanami. That should do it!

Using Drop Caps

To use drop caps, simply enclose the first letter of your post in a span, and give it the class “dropcaps”, like this: <span class=”dropcaps”>T</span>he sky above the port
was…

Captioning Images

Often when adding images, we want to add some extra text, such as the title of the image, where it was taken, or why you happened to be staring at your best friend’s bum. To display captions under an image, you need to enclose the caption in a paragraph element and give it a class of “caption”, like this: <p class=”caption”>I was actually staring at…</p>

Using Post Thumbnails

If you want to use post thumbnails, like you see in the demo and screenshot to the right, simply add the image you want to use at the beginning of the post and assign the image a class of thumbnail, like this: <img src=”http://path/to/images/image.jpg” class=”thumbnail”/>

Wptouch Wordpress iphonified Iphone Theme

What is WPtouch?

Simply put, it’s a complimentary theme installed as a plugin on your WordPress blog or website that will format your content with this Apple-inspired, full-featured theme when your visitors are using an iPhone or iPod touch.
I thought the iPhone/iPod touch shows
my website fine the way it is now?

Yes, that’s true for the most part (minus flash support). However, first of all not all blogs are created equal, and some sites don’t translate well in the viewport of the phone. Secondly, many WordPress sites today make heavy use of different javascripts which significantly increase the load time of pages, and drives users on EDGE batty. So we’ve come up with WPtouch, a slim, feature-rich, highly-customized ‘theme application’ of which includes an admin interface to let you customize page icons and your logo.
Well, what if my users don’t like it
and want to see my regular site?

There’s an option in the footer on WPtouch for your users to easily switch between the WPtouch view and your site’s regular appearance. It’s that easy. You put a little snippet of code into your current theme which will be shown only to iPhone/iPod touch users and give them the ability to switch between the two easily, but we’ll get into that later in the instructions.
Will it slow down my blog?

Not bloody likely! Unless of course you’re getting slammed with all sorts of traffic because you’ve installed this sexy thang. The entire package for WPtouch is only 243kb. It was designed to be as lightweight and speedy as possible, while still serving your blog’s content in a richly presented way.
